Lewis Hamilton has dropped the biggest driver market bombshell of the 21st century by allegedly signing for Ferrari in 2025. This is all the more surprising as it was only last August that he signed a two year contract extension with Mercedes.
Neither Ferrari nor Mercedes have commented on the move but an announcement seems imminent.
This is surely a vote of no confidence in the upcoming W15, Mercedes challenger for 2024. Hamilton will have been following development very closely over the winter and driven the car in the simulator so you have to assume he doesn’t feel Mercedes have a Red Bull beater.
Does Ferrari offer Hamilton a better chance to win his eighth world title? With the 2024 season yet to start it’s hard to draw any firm conclusions. More likely Hamilton has been drawn to Ferrari by the romanticism of it all. Ferrari has been a part of F1 since the very beginning giving the sport legends such as Niki Lauda, Gilles Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher.
On top of that Hamilton’s childhood hero, Ayrton Senna, was widely known to want to finish his F1 career at Ferrari. Perhaps Hamilton wants to do what Senna, tragically, never got the chance to do.
